Writing

At a point in my life, I thought I might become a novelist. Those days are gone, but they have been replaced with a career that involves writing for every single project, idea, plan, and production. The organizations I have been involved with at Slippery Rock University have enabled me to write both creatively and professionally. Below is a collection of artifacts from different clubs that I have been a part of and written for.

CDR Blogs

For College Dress Relief members, blog writing is at the forefront of creative expression, professional development, and portfolio work. For most of my time with CDR, I have focused my writing on fashion sustainability, but I have also recently taken the opportunity to discuss my passion for advocacy, diversity, and lifestyle growth.

My Testimony to Plastic Waste in Retail

I know we’ve talked about flaws in fast fashion and the industry as a whole before. But there’s an entirely different part of fashion and retail I don’t think we’ve mentioned on this blog before that goes largely ignored, especially by those who have never worked a retail job: plastic waste.....

Equal Rights Amendment Club

I read an article in the Rocket a few days ago, which you can access here, that talked about a new club initiative on campus. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was first proposed in 1923 by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman. The original version was called the "Lucretia Mott Amendment." This amendment would prohibit sex discrimination in many areas, including employment, education, reproductive rights, and insurance...

Plato's Closet: Your Go-To For Thrifting

My go-to stress relief: either retail therapy or iced coffee (or both, preferably both). I could give you a list of thrift stores I love, but I’ve recently been opting for Plato’s Closet....

Can Fashion be Sustainable?

According to Green America, Americans generate 16 Million tons of textile waste per year, equaling just over 6 percent of total municipal waste (for context, plastics make up 13 percent of our waste stream). This is a byproduct of manufacturers overproducing their stock of clothing. With that in mind: did you know that Shein adds 2,000 new items to its store on any given day? These are 2,000 unique products with their supply chain history....

A Guide to Coping With Leadership

Over the last few years, I have been lucky to take on several leadership and student employment opportunities. For those who don’t know me, I am one of CDR’s co-presidents, the president and executive producer of WSRU-TV (pictured), treasurer of Lambda Pi Eta (also pictured), and I have a few campus media jobs.
